D-RING

A hiking-boot D-ring is a lacing hardware component mounted on the upper to guide the lace, commonly used on hiking, work, and military boots. Its D-shaped geometry promotes smooth lace travel and balanced load distribution while providing durability, corrosion resistance, and secure retention. It is typically attached by rivets, claw plates, or screws to support quick lacing and fine tension adjustment.

Materials

  • Stainless Steel : High strength and corrosion resistance for wet, gritty, or salty environments.
  • Zinc Alloy: Excellent formability and cost-efficiency for varied shapes and thicknesses.
  • Brass: Premium polishability and plating quality; ideal for heritage or premium outdoor looks.
  • Carbon/Alloy Steel: Strong for heavy-duty use (requires robust anti-corrosion finishing).

Surface Treatment & Finishing

  • Electroplating: Bright/matte nickel, black nickel, antique brass, imitation gold, tin-black; nickel-free options available for skin-contact compliance.
  • PVD Coating: Highly wear-resistant premium colors (black Ti, smoked grey, rose gold).
  • Powder Coating / Paint Bake: Matte or custom brand colors with scratch and weather resistance.
  • Passivation (Stainless): Removes free iron and enhances corrosion resistance.

  • Hiking/Outdoor Boots: Lace guides and top-line quick lacing (often paired with hooks).
  • Work/Safety Boots: High-strength lacing points for support and longevity.
  • Military/Tactical Boots: Abrasion- and corrosion-resistant components enabling rapid adjustment.
